love for the milliners

This hat was made by me whilst studying to achieve an HNC in fashion and textiles at Dundee College.  Could not have done it without Alex the milliner of course but was extremely chuffed with the results.   I was inspired by the 1920’s, an era when cloche hats were popular (although invented in 1908 by milliner Caroline Reboux).  The hat was made with buckrum as the base which was used to mould the shape and then covered in linen.  I then made a band around the middle of the hat which I free hand machine embroidered and added minimal sequins and hand embroidery threads and French knots.  So many hours go into a hat and I have since gained a massive respect for milliners.

Millinery is a fine art and requires MAJOR skill.
