ETHICAL MANUFACTURING

KerrieALDO is committed to ethical manufacturing. Each and every piece is designed and handcrafted in the UK. The KerrieALDO studio is once again located in my hometown of Dundee meaning the majority of KerrieALDO pieces are made right here by me. Occasionally I get the help of skilled seamstresses who are all based in the UK.

Made with love, and made to last.

ECO-FRIENDLY FABRICS

The main fabrics we use in KerrieAldo garments and accessories are: waxed cotton, denim, corduroy and organic cotton. All of these fabrics share the property of being natural materials, which means they come from the earth, and will return to the earth to biodegrade. 0% plastic, 100% plants.

Wherever possible, materials including outer fabrics, linings, zips and buttons are sourced right here in the UK. We’re proud to support Scottish suppliers like Halley Stevensons of Dundee, which helps boost the local textile economy and reduce our carbon footprint.

Prompted by Fashion Revolution I have further looked into my suppliers this year and am working towards making even better choices in the future to continue to contribute to a more positive, transparent and less harmful impact on the people who make our fabrics and our planet. I will update this page as I continue to learn and grow towards ever more sustainable choices. See further information on the fabrics I work with below.

Waxed Cotton - The cotton from Halley Stevensons is BCI certified or in regards to Organic cotton, GOTs certified.  They specify the use of USA cotton fibres for spinning, which also can be traced through spinning contracts. They import the loom state fabrics from Pakistan and India from mills they have had long-standing relationships with.

From there, they dye and finish all under one roof at the Baltic Works factory based here in Dundee. This allows their specialised team to have full control of the quality and processes our fabric goes through to create our unique waxed cotton.

Jersey/rib - The t-shirt ribbing used is produced in the UK and the jersey’s raw material comes from India is dyed here in the UK, all fabrics are Oeko Tex and reach compliant and reactive dyed.

Cord, Canvas & Drill- These are all-natural fabrics and are made in Thailand or China – the supplier’s directors have assured that they go to these countries every year to check the working conditions, our directors ensure they are happy with the staff in the mills.

Ventile - Ventile is a high-grade cotton fabric that is spun, twisted, woven and dyed/finished in Switzerland following the highest quality standards. (This has been used in only Custom Works Designs so far).

SLOW FASHION

KerrieALDO-sustainability-policy-slow-fashion

We’re not keen on fast fashion fads and seasonal ‘drops’ - our collection is timeless and every piece is made to last. Whether you opt for custom works or ready-to-wear,  the majority of our products are made-to-order. This means that we don’t keep excess stock, which helps us reduce textile waste.

Our lead times may be a little longer than you’re used to, and that’s because we are dedicated to individually crafting each and every order with love, care, and quality construction.

SUPPLY CHAIN TRANSPARENCY

We’re committed to working with total transparency, which means we are more than happy to share who makes your clothes, what they’re made of, where they’re made and more. sustainability is a journey, not a destination, so if you have any questions about how we work, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
