The Dundee Raincoat Part 2 - the fabric.

So you have already heard about waxed cotton but let me tell you a little bit more about this unique fabric that has been used to create The Dundee Raincoat.

Halley Stevensons are the world’s leading manufacturers and innovators in waxed cotton and weatherproofed fabrics.  All the dyeing and finishing of this fabric happens under one roof right in my hometown of Dundee.

The raincoat is designed as a single shell to protect against the elements using the driest wax and aero tumble finishing with a softly aged appearance.  This is a fabric that I use in many of my designs and love to work with.  It is lighter in weight than traditional waxed cotton and lends well to layering in the cooler months and worn as a top layer when it is a little warmer.

As all waxed cotton this fabric is durable enough to stand the test of time with each wear only adding to the character and appearance of the coat itself.  It is a unique fabric in that it can be regularly reproofed to maintain performance for many years, unlike many synthetic man-made fibres which are destined for landfills.
